Small ship cruising provides a more intimate experience than the large cruise ships, without sacrificing any of the amenities. We define small ships as anywhere from under a hundred passengers to several hundred passengers. Compare this to the 2,500 and up capacity of the large ships. Small ship cruises are heavily destination focused with unique itineraries and shore excursions. Many of the excursions are included in the fare.
This may be just the type of trip you are looking for as an alternative to the large ship experience. Most if not all of the staterooms will be outside, window or porthole, cabins. While there are a large number of small ship companies, and the ships vary greatly, you can expect outstanding service, excellent food and extras such as lectures and entertainment.
Smaller ships can also cruise to remote destinations and smaller out of the way ports, that the larger cruise ships cannot visit. Examples include the Chilean and Scandinavian fjords, the Galapagos Islands, the Black Sea, the Inside Passage to Alaska and also along the Eastern coast of the US, the Sea of Cortez, South Pacific Island ports, British Columbia, the Saint Lawrence Seaway, Antarctica and more. Discover the wilds of the Arctic, the paradise of the South Pacific, or the magic of the Mediterranean.
Many of these small ship cruises we consider adventure travel, for more information Click Here to go to our Adventure page!
